Paramour

Paramour

A Poem by Marc Marlon Villaflor
"

A complex love affair

"

When I kissed your lips, I almost lost my world

I am standing here with you, giving up my crown.

Holding you now, I am breaching my vow.

This love of mine is endless

Only death can separate us

Now run, run from my father’s rancor

Run faster as I cover your flee

As my tears turned into a pouring rain

Oh my love, my last breath is for you

When the war is over tomorrow

I will be in your dreams forever

This fragile heart beats slowly fading

My only wish for you, you will be a King

My young soul is like a clouds

When I close my eyes…remember me.

Dear Marc

And so you now address what seems to me a metaphor for, or if not that, a way of expressing the real in your love life:

The endless drag, the sensual spin, the forbidden fruit of the illicit relationship with either the married or the simply dedicated; the conjoined;

The thrill of the 'sin' of getting away with it measured by the critique and judgement, the father, morality, your own included; and

The real pain you face, or your persona, your protagonist here does.

Not easy teritory for the faint of heart nor for those who have never been there. Educational perhaps but cerainly not titillating as you express it, for those who haven't.

It still remains here in your piece the realm of the broken hearted and not the charlatan, the Don Juan, the Don Giovanni.

I fear I have been there. I have been perhaps too many places in my life, in just the one lifetime.

Too many permitted and impermissible fruits.

But that leaves me both shipwrecked and the wiser from it.

We learn or we die.

I prefer not suicide by absence of learning.

It happens. It happened to me.

You express the heartache and a genuine one well.

You teach me. You relate to me.

An accomplished piece.

But in the real world outside the meandering soul searching of the writer, let's move on to fresher and brighter pastures new.

A world where the word illicit does not stem from the Latin 'illicitus' 'forbiden' with the quaint old Norse 'ill' unwell as a kicker, into the brighter world of real love where no-one gets hurt.

I admire your honesty.

If there is anythging I like to see in most of what I read it is that and you do it in spades here.

With my kindest regards as ever

James

Love the first two lines...absolutely stunning. There are many types of love, and each has its own genuine and subtle gifts. I love this exploration. Nicely done.
