Exchange of Heart

Exchange of Heart

A Poem by Markus Anthony

We stare at endless height

Though darkness dominates the skies
And the moon stands the only light
To draw the glistening orbs in your eyes

Your words sing music to my ears
Your touch is warm, dilating my pores
And then breeze began to offer tears
To the grasses of earthly floors

The wind blows to kiss your darling
As i whistle to keep them blowing
How long will you have me waiting
To kiss your lips as they stood watching

Don’t cover your face with your delicate hair
I wish to see your smile and the lines up there.
But the happy sounds i hear seem to fade away
Stay will you and never part by day

Tears are flowing from your face
While dew drops fill in little pace
You were lonely, i never knew
Tired of love I gave so true.

Then just you ran swift like rain

That showers now and cools my vein

You were far when my senses came back

It was the day you to took him back.

Days have passed so I accept

A picture of us for my heaving chest

Worsened rainy nights accompanied by

A cup of milk and a frowning sigh.

And your songs loved by my sister too

Burned soon as my ears are through

It pains me when memories flash

The pair we formed left to trash.

Volunteered to help recover your track

Accepted deep your sinful acts

The charm you possess beyond compare

Spared was I, not from your skillful snare

Leave me be as I command

I’ll give back your lost hairband

Must I have a corrupted mind

Yours are nowhere to find.

Evening smile like sweet chamomile

The title I wish to give this piece

Driven by no one so my head declined

Instead bucket of bitterness released

For a long time caught in abysmal truth

Today beauty winks from a lovely youth

As the sunshine finishes its final part

We can’t have an exchange of heart.

Such a folorn and sad piece as the protagonist relects upon a love now lost to him as his lady returns to another and leaves him sad and bereft. This poem is loaded with so many stanzas that have sharp and brutal edges to make the reader feel the yearning and the pain.

I wonder if the word "exchange" in your title might be more apt as "change" . . . your poem seems to be about how someone's heart changes, not about the two exchanging their hearts with each other. I like that you are telling a story in your poem & you show your characters going thru a change of heart. There are some errors -- too many to list but not too many so that your words can still be understood easily. But since you're a struggling medical student, I know you don't have time to edit down to the last misspelled word. I can accept this as a fulsome message that's offered in a spirit of expressing yourself about love & loss. I like the way the ending grows more intense, as if the narrator is feeling the heartbreak strongly (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
