Sailor Dress

Sailor Dress

A Poem by mathiasthom

Someone posted on Facebook
an ordinary picture of you
but my eyes were drawn
to your skinny arms
and some angry splotch of a tattoo

Who knows what was going on
in that head of yours?
maybe too much whiskey
or a desperate need to stand out
in some sailor dress again, on the corner

Can't help being brutally honest
at one mad time
we were exactly the same,
too wild for the world to tame
now you're being semi respectable

Still feeling strange
out of sync
emotions will sink
never seem to upswing
always on the brink

So who knows what was going on
in that head of yours
that listless phrase
caught silently on your face
dancing on the corner, in some sailor dress
