Stepped Inbetween

Stepped Inbetween

A Poem by mathiasthom

If you can't get into this frame of mind
stick with your own kind
I'll stay with mine,
so who is to say who is blind?

Turning to face away
anything that disturbs you today
but the sun is in these eyes
and this heart is on this sleeve

Wondering why everybody leaves?
nothing ever stays the same
registering everyone as strangers
hypocritical and strange

Do I need to travel around the world?
a pristine window,
another brick to hurl?
a point of view that nobody truly believes?

Maybe something really went wrong?
tangled threads, wires, patterns
crisscrossed and lost
burning cinders, ashes to dust

On a computer
a stranger sends a message
plays 20 questions
an impromptu confession

This perfect world you forever seek
just beyond another working week
stepped inbetween the screen
another unrealistic dream
