11/11/11 11:11

A Poem by Drowning with Stars

I don't believe in luck, I don't believe in fate
So no, I won't be putting all my hope into this so-called "special" date
They've told me to wish for what I want most
To close my eyes and believe in November's boast
There are many things that today's anticipation will bring thoughts of
Some will wish for success, some for happiness, some for love
But what promise do a line of numbers really hold?
Can ten ones in a row truly turn dirt to gold?
It's all for good fun, that I realize
But if I play along, I'm afraid I'll begin to believe in this imaginary prize
I refuse to get my hopes up, you see
Perhaps I'll wish for a lesser dream
I have no reason to believe that this wish will come true
So on 11/11/11 at 11:11 tonight, I will not be wishing for you

Author's Note

Drowning with Stars
For those of you who haven't heard of the 11:11 wish, it's just another superstition thing, like wishing on a shooting star, or blowing an eyelash away, or making a wish as you blow out your birthday candles. On 11/11/11 at 11:11, it was supposed to be more effective or something, so you were supposed to wish really big, for whatever you wanted the most. Just a little back-story for ya :)

About
What I love about poetry is that it's completely personal. Not only to the writer, but the same poem also means something a little different to every single reader, the same way a song is different to.. more..
