Dreams in the Modern Age

Dreams in the Modern Age

A Poem by Megan Lynn

She lives in her mind
It's how she spends her time
Magic lands, princes in disguise
The queen of her world,
catch her on cloud nine

But the story isn't as it seems
There's terrors in every dream
They lurk outside the frame
Waiting to stake their claim

You couldn't know
How hard it has to get
To invent a world and just forget

She hopes for an escape
And in her head she found her place
But sometimes it's not enough
She finds herself out of luck

The real world seeps through
There's nothing she can do
But wait it out and hope and pray
her palace isn't too far away

She lives in her mind
It's how she spends her time

Thank you for this. No matter how far we get in life, or how "successful" we become, there are some days during which we suddenly find ourselves on the precarious precipice of decompensation. For me it was as recent as this morning. Thus, your poem is timely and deeply resonates with my experience. Escaping into the palaces of my mind has always been my coping strategy of choice.

Anyway, good work!

The world can seem cold and tire.
"The real world seeps through
There's nothing she can do
But wait it out and hope and pray
her palace isn't too far away"
All of us daydream. We need a escape. Thank you Megan for sharing the excellent poetry.
