No Mom

No Mom

A Poem by MeghanMillie

It's like having arachnophobia
And everyone is made of spiders
The floor and school hallways are thickly coated in webs
Your life is fear
They live in your hair
In your heart
In your cereal bowl
Each morning to stare into it afraid to eat
No mom I'm hungry
But the way my figure looks in my mind makes the snap crackle pop
Sound like gunshots in my ears
Each snap the backhand of my childhood
This is fear
It turns the milk in my bowl warm
Mom I am not hungry
Each time I stare into that bowl I think about how much I regret waking up in the morning
Mom no I'm not cutting
The cat attacked me
My shirt got caught on chicken wire
No mom I never tell the truth

The pain stands out very strongly in this work. The agony, and fear, and salty sadness reverberates with every word. However, the ending, whilst fitting in with your work, does take a different tone, and could be worked to fit a bit more. Otherwise, a fantastic work.
