Little May [Song]

Little May [Song]

A Poem by David Michael
"

A lullaby for Mae Lea on her 3rd birthday

"

Little May-flowers bloomin’
in her hair, in her eyes—
and our love softly blossomed
under starlit skies.

Little May-birds were dancin’
in her laugh, and in her song.
Now she's flown thru the winter
to a golden morn.

And if you see her,
will you tell her,
I love her so!
And will you ask her,
does she miss me?
I need to know.

Little May-clouds a’floatin’
in her smile, and in her heart—
lovely spring, guard her safely
while we’re still apart.

Little May-showers fallin’
as the sky sheds my pain—
she has found distant shorelines
while I must remain.

Little May-perfumes fadin’
like a lonesome memory—
‘cross the world I will seek her,
calling tenderly.

And when I see her,
I will tell her,
I love her so!
And I will hold her—
how I've missed her! —
And ne’er let go.

Little May-breezes whisp’rin’
as they call to me her name—
one day soon, I will hold her
on the endless plains.
