I Don't Really Know Where This Came From

I Don't Really Know Where This Came From

A Poem by Natalie

I want to take my handS and press it against the heart of the earth, and
stain it with my name.
Feel the failing beat of it all rising and falling
with it's flesh squished around and between my fingers.

I want to take my handS and touch the core of the world.
Carve into it my dreams
my words
my hopes and goals
my thoughts
my opinions
my story
my breath
my existence.

I do not want to be a legend,
and one day they will forget my name
forget my face and I want them to
For I have no need to be remembered.
But when I'm dead and the earth beats for one less I...
I want to be more than good
I want to great.

I could say that I don't wanna be just another person,
lowered into the dirt where I came from
carefully placed in this creation, but I am
We all are
And so there is no use in denying the fact...
because it's OK to be just another person.
It's OK to be who you are.

Author's Note

Natalie
When I say "it's OK to be just another person" I'm not implying that you or anyone else isn't special, important, or unique, because in my eyes everyone is. I'm saying that it's OK to be yourself. We are all people. We are all human and that's OK. There are many of us who share the same dreams, who want and seek the same things and that's OK. We shouldn't be ashamed of that. I think so many of us focus on being different from everyone else that we loose sight of who we are. We all have qualities that set us apart and qualities that we share, or bring us together. We should embrace both.
That is all.

Natalie...you have wisdom and insight beyond your years, you have conceptualized the ideals that nations have philosophised over and over...The last line is perfect..it's ok to be who you are..in fact its imperative! Bravo..
