You Can't Win When There's No Finish Line

You Can't Win When There's No Finish Line

A Poem by metaljelly

You take a quick glance and you can't believe what you're seeing,
now you're stuck in a trance speculating unknown being.
It's still, dark, you feel like it's awaiting your demise,
you're in a staring contest but you see only nothingness in its eyes.
You're surprised because you didn't know first impressions are full of lies;
you feel paralyzed because you just realized it's you in disguise.
You don't like this it comes off as a twisted trick,
whoever's set this up has to be sick.
This isn't smoke and mirrors but you're looking at one,
the realizations getting nearer, and you feel your tendency to run.
You see yourself for what you are but somehow you think you're perfect,
the way you can't see the empty in your life is an introspective defect.
You think you've won because you're wealthy, but you hate everyone around,
how could you not know something's wrong when everyone's voice is a dreaded sound.
You've somehow convinced yourself that there is so much good in the life you've found,
but deep down you know every single day increases the desire to scream and pound.
Your whole existence has been set on one hollow goal;
misfortune to you, for typical success isn't quite so full.
Your own family means nothing to you;
driven by materialistic greed, your own mother you'd falsely sue.
You enjoy nothing, you see no hope in anything new.
You relate to no one; when's the last time you said, "me too"?
This is why you're not a person, you're more of a selfish creature;
all your life, getting what you want has been its main feature.
You have it all, but no one to share it with; you're actually friendless.
It won't be long before you trip on your possessions and descend into a lonely abyss.
On the thought of loving or caring, is something you've pissed,
there's no one you've felt feelings for you've actually kissed,
on this planet people like you are merely a cyst,
the true meaning of life you've unfortunately missed.

STARTS WITH A SPECULATIVE DREAM OF SORT AND THE N THE LINES GET FILLED IN ABOUT A PERSON WHO'S LIFE IS ABOUT GREED AND NOTHING MUCH ELSE MATTERS IN HIS EYES...I SEE WHERE THE TITLE FITS IN THE MIX OF THINGS...TO HIM LIFE IS NORMAL...DOES NOT SEE THROUGH IT AND CONSUMES HIS LIFESTYLE...
