Shooting Star

Shooting Star

A Poem by Michael

On a cold clear night with a million stars
I watched one streak the sky
A flickering sprite shooting straight past Mars
grew bold to catch my eye

For a moment of time this life burned bright
and held my solemn gaze
It was soon devoured with no trail in sight
and left me in a haze

Then this impatient star that streaked the night -
gave thought along my way
Some orbs shine still while yet others take flight
each, with its role to play

We live out our lives much like a star
moving throughout the day
Pulled by hidden forces both near and far
we're changed along the way

Some will stay put and give a guiding light
for everyone to see
Others will shoot out far and blaze from sight
being burned by breaking free

Nice dichotomy of character explored with the use of the shooting star as your main imagery. Nicely done. I believe 'roll' should be spelled 'role'. Great work. Thank you.

Every time I read something of yours I had yet to read, I find one that I call a new favorite. This one evokes a powerful sentiment, a life lesson learned, while at the same time creating beautiful imagery in its metaphors. Nicely done, of course. Bravo!

I love the analogy here and the imagery is so vibrant. For me this is what poetry is all about, an uplifting journey through heart and mind.

Beautifully done.

A beautiful piece.

A magnificent in words comparison to human lives. You dare to compare humans with a univers full of wisdom and greatness - and you do it in a grandiloquent manner and create marvelous pictures to the reader's inner eye.

Brilliant work!

A wonderful analogy of people's lives and fates with that of the stars. Beautiful imagery in a well written poem. Thank you for sharing
