Life and Limb

Life and Limb

A Poem by Mike H.
"

A play on the saying "falling for you"... It's about getting older, letting go, falling in love, and starting over. I wrote this for my wife while we were dating.

"
Focused, gazing intently at the followers on the path ahead
How my memories fade into perfect days in your hands

I patiently transfix my gaze on the falling leaves, us.
Once so full of life, but the vibrance of age left us swaying on the breeze.

Strange, I once thought of this brilliant dance as falling,
an inevitable retirement from a lifetime clinging to the limb.

The spinning stops as we settle softly on the ground.

Here we find the end.
There on the forest floor where all new life begins.

I can still read this over and over again. So beautiful. The soft imagery, the wise tone, and the comforting drift of this poem are so beautifully interwoven. Reading this now, I will say it has a bit of a sadness to it, as if this place on the forest floor was not easily reached.

Lovely.
