Heart Beat Beating

I wrote this today while in a writing workshop....my intentions were to surprise the reader...and I surprised myself. This is the best poem I've written in years.

        There is nothing like a heartbeat
That undoubt-able sign of life, it's rhythm assures promise and things hoped for are once again hoped for.

        There's nothing like a heartbeat
through anguish, joy, tears, happiness, and sorrow it just keeps beat beating.
Through Pain Through Love Through All it just beats on.

Flowers, flowers, seemingly endless rows of flowers, Candles, Now this is a beautiful...
I hear a heartbeat; fast, anxious, a let's-get-this-over-with heartbeat...
Is it suppose to be? Will you? "I do!" heartbeat. The color white. Who has the ring? Speak now or forever or forever, or FOREVER hold your peace. Heartbeat.

        There is nothing like it, nothing like a heartbeat.

Doctors, Doctors, rooms and rooms of doctors. The umbilical cord is wrapped around the babies' ....Wow! There is a heartbeat.
A heartbeat, a reason to hope and keep hoping, to love and keep loving, to give and keep giving,
desiring to have nothing...

and to have it All

Foldable chairs, so many chairs, seemingly endless rows of chairs. Heartbeat. Today is her day. She made it. Heartbeat. Take a picture with the President of the University. Heartbeat. "Dear Graduate"...the card begins sweetly..."You are on your way to greatness and we are so proud of...Heartbeat.

There's nothing like a heartbeat, through life's hills and valleys it beats on.
It beats on. It beats on.

So small. A very small church.  Only two rows for the immediate family, including the pallbearers. Heavy hearts. Enormous teardrops.

                                 It STOPPED. They can't believe it stopped.

Who dares stops the beating of our hearts?
