Night and day

Night and day

A Poem by Lost in Wonderland

He was the night,

The winter,

The cold

He kept to himself

Living isolated in a small house atop a hill

A pale body, absent a soul,

Followed a banal routine:

Eat, drink, sleep, eat, drink, sleep

The lights were dim in that lonely house atop a hill

He was the night,

The winter,

The cold

But what most failed to realize is...

He was just desperately alone

She was the day,

The summer,

The warmth

Her smile, as bright as the sun,

Was contagious,

Infecting all those who surrounded her

She lived life to the fullest

Every day was something new

Dance, sing, play, cry, run, jump, scream, love, hate

Live!

Never was she on her own,

Her beauty and charisma didn't allow it

After all she was the day,

The summer,

The warmth

But most failed to realize

That sometimes...

She wanted to be alone

One morning she ran away

Determined to escape the ever present day

She wanted peace

She needed calm

For once she had to wipe the grin from her face

So she ran,

Furious and fast,

Now call it chance

Call it luck

Call it fate or serendipity

But she happened upon a hill

Only a solitary, small cottage sitting upon it

With cool, soft grass

Where she could rest

Far apart from the bright day

The air was cold on the hill,

But the chill felt good on her sun-burned skin

The sky was dark here

But it allowed her to finally close her eyes and rest

He gazed at her

From the house atop that hill

basking in the light

And warmth that radiated off of her

Slowly, quietly, timidly even

He,

The night,

Made his way toward the day

He was blinded by her Luminous beauty

Her eyes the color of a cloudless sky

Her soft hair the color of the sun

He touch her arm and sighed at the delicious heat

She felt his cold caress

And shivered at the relief it brought

She did not shy away from him,

This embodiment of night (like most did)

But pulled him close to her

Combining the night and the day

He took her to live

in that house atop a hill,

Him enjoying the new brightness,

Her taking pleasure in the peaceful quiet

It was a new...better life for them both

No longer was the night so dark and gloomy and alone

No longer was the day so crowded and tired and burned

I guess its true that opposites attract

He became the dawn

Finally emerging from the night

Allowing himself to smile for once,

Dance for once,

Care for once

She became the dusk,

Fading out of the day for good

Letting herself sit in silence,

Closing her eyes and relaxing at last,

Resting…

They complimented,

Completed one another

And now,

On that house atop a hill

The eternally fulfill each other

I think I might have just fallen in love with your work. Absolutely wonderful. And for some odd reason, made me think of Edward Scissorhands...A truly beautiful masterpiece.
