Subtraction

Subtraction

A Poem by Jacqueline
"

Better for me or you?

"

Subtraction

we walked in
hand in hand
you never allowed me to fall
faint or cry
every time I felt the ground crumble
beneath me
i suddenly levitated
just nestling in your arms
a few encouraging words
always allowed me to find solid ground
again

the stares and whispers
unnerved me
i searched for understanding
in your eyes
all I found was winter
the strong clutch slowing eroded
to a slack like hold-
you wanted to drop me and leave
the sigh of impatience lulled
around me
i didn’t want to be here neither

we sat and my mind has
been made up-
by you
cold mathematics make
subtraction an easy option
i wanted more time to figure
the problem out
i heard a familiar name being called
then the same strong hand
guided me towards a door
where a table awaited

“It will be alright, sweetheart…”
a kiss on my forehead so
saccarine
other firm hands directed me
into the room
little did anyone know
that every word he’s ever said was a
lie
