A Poem by Molly

Like lazy Sunday afternoons

My body draped on the bed in a pool of sunlight,

mind wandering with the dust motes in the air.

Oh how I wish to succumb to the laziness licking at my muscles

That ache to be in your arms…

But memories are my frayed companions.

How the sun and leaves created an ephemeral green glow

And the air was heavy with anticipation (or was it just humidity?)

For that first kiss

Cramped in the car, sloppy with excitement

Fast and urgent, quenching our desires.

A perfect side effect from too much beer and summer weather.

Our freedom, youth, stretching and waking as we undressed each other under the moonlight

Dulling the pain in our knees as they came in contact with unwanted rocks,

Deafening our ears to the snickering of our friends.

Here’s to those that can escape their obligations

Or can tie them neatly together with the bliss

We all are waiting passionately for.

Striking visuals for me on this work, I can relate to many things in this poem. I really like the way the poems structure and its subject matter are both boundless.
