Jim Morrison/ The lizard king

Jim Morrison/ The lizard king

A Poem by Monday Parker

He writes his words

With 1000 pounds of escape

Heavy

Weighed

Screams insanities while

Riding the snake

Convulsing as seizures

Chomping on the bit

Frothing

Wild in his brown

Windows

Dark inner demons

Smiling at depression

Howling at the sun

Inching the healthy fragments of skin

On to dust on his microphone

Not a vocalist

But a poet

Medium to the dark and light

May be nothing more

Than a voice to speak with

Eyes to watch from

Existence to invade

Influential legend

Once walked among us

Blessings us with his beauty

Shaking us with his tremor

With his roar

Making flames of my soul with his words

Our shaman king.

I had never heard of Jim Morrison before reading this poem. I had to actually do a Google search to learn more about him. This poem was intriguing that at really peaked my curiosity. You chose some very interesting words as a tribute to this musical artist. I think you did a great job here.

Great tribute to a rock god. Filled with sacred language that gives the adration a much weightier feel. I liked it. I think Mr. Mojo Risin would have liked it himself. cheers!

Incandescent tribute.

Convergence of poetics and rock is strongest.

Like the other Sagittarian rock god, Hendrix, methinks the shamanic depth simply wasn't stabilized. But even grounding 2 of 3 major streams can immortalize.

Rock, poetics, shamanism -- seldom equally realized. Let's add one more stream for future 4-in-1 attainment: Zen.

Strong poem, catalyzes thought on desirable integral fire art.

Fine tribute here. A geyser of imagery as well.

What a powerful dedication. You visualize the music and the man so brilliantly, from his performances to the depth of his mind. Powerfully gifted and gone too soon...

One of the three J's that we lost too soon, Jim, Jimi and Janis, he burned ever so brightly while he was here. Riders on the Storm still gives me goosebumps.

you know the first time i read that i think i was pretty baked and i didnt get it... but now that im looking at this.. i see what you mean. It breaks my heart to think of it..to know that we are all kinda the same in that way just not all of us can express it so well.. its sad that something had to break all the way before it could be fixed. "Smiling at depression, howling at the sun"
