The Retreat

The Retreat

A Poem by Monday Parker

Tomorrow- I will let you go

Quickly in a text message

Something like

“I can’t do this anymore- I don’t want to get hurt”

And you will reply simply

“Ok, I understand”

You will leave it just like that

With those words and nothing more

Moving on swiftly

Only for me…

For the next week I will be in the depths of distress

Raw damaged emotions

A gnawing hollowness

Stinging sensitivity of your absence.

I had already let you in

Felt you close and relished it

I craved your touch

And I wanted it again…

But the games your playing are to much for me to take

I won’t reach out to you

Or say anything more

I will just leave these words on a page

And turn and walk away.
