Good thought you raised.

You "spoke" with the intent and the count... but the form is off the normal path. I've oft thought that perhaps a 17 syllable count and the freedom to form the words as we please was what should be the only criteria. 5 - 7 - 5 or even
5 - 7 - 5 - 7 - 7 is a hard form to follow.
