Mama

Mama

A Poem by Diane

I close my eyes and say a prayer.
Praying hard that you are still there.
My heart has been heavy since you left.

The pain is still raw after years have passed.
I feel your presence watching over me.
I smell your scent when you are protecting me.

Nothing has been the same since you left.
You were my always and everything and that's that.
I miss you so much I could almost crack.

I can't crack, I have to be strong,
Hold my head up and pretend nothings wrong.
I still have little people who depend on me.
I wouldn't want to disappoint my mama who taught me.

I pray and pray when it is my time
that you will come collect me and the soul that is mine.
Meet me on the other side before the pearly white gates.
Hold my hand but not cause of fear.
I just want to feel the love that you radiate.

This is such a sweet poem. It reminded me of my friend who's mother passed away when she was rather young. I look at her and I say to myself, I can only imagine how hard things must be for her. Moms are truly god's greatest gift. Thanks for sharing this.

That is correct. Now that my mother is gone, I can not stand when people disrespect their mother.

This is beautiful. I can feel your love in it.

This is touching and poignant. We never get over losing a parent, in my experience, at least. I think the important thing here is that you keep alive the loving relationship.

I really work hard at keeping the relationship alive. I want my children to know her the way I did.
Nothing can replace the loss of a parent especially if you were close.it leaves a empty space inside of you that lasts forever.this is a sweet tribute written from the heart.very sentimental.A honor to read

Thank you very much for the review.
Diane, your mother is with you now and always will be. Feel her in the wind that caresses your cheek and runs it's fingers through your hair. Hear her voice in the laughter of your daughters. And see her face when you look in the mirror. A love like that is never lost.

It can feel painful to lose someone. I understand the pain all too well. Great job on this heartfelt poem.

The odd thing is, I didn't put any work into it. Just my heart. I was missing my mom, opened the tab.. read more
This is a lovely heart-felt poem. LastMonth wrote, "this should be spoken, rather than read." As I read it indeed parts of it, I could not help but read in a low soft voice. I feel when a poem is like that it shows me how the writer has used the correct words, and they have burrowed so deep into my psyche; I can't help but want to read parts of it verbally.

Well done.

BTW: There is nothing drastically wrong with the grammar. The only thing is a comma or period could be placed after "I miss you so much." That is a very minor issue of no real concern to me. I am not one to be perfect with grammar, well at least in poems. Why? I think sometimes concentrating on perfect grammar can make a creative writing seem too mechanical.

To me it feels as though this should be spoken, rather then read.
But that is just me.

Emotional and impactful.
Keep it up.
