Book Smell

Book Smell

A Poem by Marja W.

Book Smell

The smell of sitting in moms arms

reading before bed

pleading for her to read one more book

an excuse to stay up later

The smell of waiting at the library after school

waiting for mom to get off work

trying to focus on homework

scanning hundreds of densely packed shelves

hanging out in the lobby with chatty friends

constantly hearing the sharp “shhhhhh” from librarians

The smell of my sisters collection

the books she goes through by the hour

the thick dusty smell in my nose

borrowing her books

finding why each is a treasure to her

The smell of studying

head buried in the ancient text book

taking down more than enough notes

getting engulfed in too many projects

trying to find the grade I want somewhere in the book

I really like this! Good use of imagery. I enjoy the fact that each stanza is a different story, where you can picture a scene happening by thinking of the scent a book gives you. It's relatable. I can't chose a favorite stanza! Well done :D
