The Serpent's Land Of Sorrow

The Serpent's Land Of Sorrow

A Poem by Namaa Hammond

Two sticks withstand thy snow and land
Buried sleet inside a plateau
The struggles, only to find no hand
An entrapped bird was bound in snow

Flying after nothing in the air that's free
Sets of  flightless arms not in flight
Losing all sanity in the midst of sea
I've grown too old to seek the light

Fly, I fly lower as I shook my head
Into the forests of gnomes and knives
Piled with forks and dogs to be fed
They smiled, as he was counting lives

A bow and arrow hung on the tree
A tree that carried the dogs' one leash
The one supported by the serpent's feet
The tree that turned from sun to disease

The roots that grew from broken seeds
Clot in the arteries of the poison stem
And the leaves once green now deceased
I stared at the serpent as he condemned

Burn down the fields of ice and snow
Bury the serpent from his feet below
The leash of the dog left the gnomes in woe
The land of sorrow continued to grow
