Little Jerome

Little Jerome

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

Child Abuse rains down to kill

Innocence lost in pain and tears

childhood laughter heard no more

Scares carried for many years

Blood is splattered on walls of chipping paint

Little bone broken in abuse's wake

Open hearts of ignorance today

Stop this abuse for goodness sake

No one sees what goes on behind closed doors

Echoes of screams tell us when abusers come home

Terrified eyes pleading for help

Someone help little Jerome

I'm no martyr, but I can see

A life in pain and I can't let it be

I must stand against violence today

Or little Jerome will have to pay
