Nightmares

Nightmares

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

Nightmares

Nightmares erupt within the sleeping mind

Countless monsters converge intertwined

Growling can be heard all around

Squirm under the covers at the sound

Dreams of hypnotic fears

Suddenly eyes are filled with tears

Minds suddenly lost in time

Voices converse in demonic rhyme

A kaleidoscope of colors running amuck

Lost in a swamp, feet get stuck

Stumbling through a fiery maze

Desperately trying to escape the blaze

Eyes are heavy and throat is hoarse

Silent screams to silent remorse

A deafening noise breaks through the fog

The alarm clock leads you out of the bog
