Like Twisty Trees

Like Twisty Trees

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

Like Twisty Trees

Like twisty trees of Irish lore

Leprechauns underneath them snore

Holding tight to their pots of gold

A magical sight I’d love to behold

He seemed to stare into my soul

An Irish myth from days of ole

A rainbow stretched across the sky

In my mind’s ear I heard a leprechaun cry

My spell I cast ; you'll see the sign

If you cross this unmarked line

Many have ventured into my maze

All were lost; minds set ablaze

You’ll never find my pot of gold

Its hidden with magic unspoken, untold

The end of the rainbow you'll never find

You’ll search and search until you go blind

My spell has been cast and you should fear

A spell like twisty trees so near

Gnarled and blackened by my spell

Flames burn hot in my torture cell

I love it! Magical and ever so slightly twisted. Your talent for storytelling flourishes in this piece. A piece that drew me in very easily, brilliant hook of the leprauchaun, great write!
