Anne walked down the stone stairway
In silence she slipped into the boat
Holding back the sobs
That filled her aching throat
Anne sat the boat adrift on Devils Bayou
Floating blindly, Anne had lost her way
Anne’s haunting eyes stared into the everglades
Pain she couldn’t bear another day
Anne sat upon the royal quilt
That had adorned her marriage bed
Anne longed to join her husband Seth
Who was now four days dead
Seth’s body was discovered
In this murky bog
His arms wrapped tightly
To a floating log
In his clinched tight fist
Twas a lock of Anne’s red hair
He carried it in his pocket
Folded inside a handwritten prayer
Seth hadn’t been out hunting
Men carried him from the palace
Rivals masked in deception
Their hearts filled with malice
Assassination of her love
By enemies still unknown
Left Anne’s heart ripped open
And beside Anne an empty throne
The child inside Anne stilled
When they carried Seth’s body in
Nothing left to live for
Anne knows it is a sin
Anne is sure; God understands her grief
And will look over this one tragic act
And not hold her accountable
And keep Anne’s soul intact
Anne will float upon this boat
Carrying Anne to her resting place
And drown all the pain
Written on Anne’s lovely face
This night Anne will join her husband
And the child that never drew breath
Anne will once again feel happiness
In the moment of her death
She’ll slip beneath waters green
And draw in one last breath
And when Anne’s eyes reopen
Anne will be in the loving arms of Seth
