The Lady In White

The Lady In White

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

The Lady In White

She's the lady in white

Left on her wedding day

Alone in the church

Her true love ran away

He left with her best friend

And they left her to face

The entire town alone

She's now a bride in disgrace

Now she sits in her house

Lost inside her mind

People who come to call

Try to be kind

She'll never love again

Never give her heart

Never take a chance

Won't be a new start

Her gown of white

Now dingy and gray

She's the looney ole gal

Sitting alone in decay

She's the lady in white

Her mind filled with gloom

Eyes vacant she stares

Into the empty room
