Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

New Orleans Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras (Also known as Fat Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday)

Mardi Gras

Day of Mardi Gras

Beginning with Fat Tuesday

Before Ash Wednesday

Big bijou celebration

Masks worn throughout the quarter

Down in New Orleans

Music of jazz bands

Will wash away your sorrow

With festivities

Carnival ended

Hurricane Katrina blew

Leaves death in its wake

Aftermath of horror

Mardi Gras returns to life

Bringing back the day
