Lost in the Mist

Lost in the Mist

A Story by Nancy Lee Shrader

Lost in the Mist

Grandmother told the haunting story. Grandma said, that happened a day or two ago, but she really meant to say; it happened a day or two after her tenth birthday. She saw a girl and boy climbing up New River Gorge on a rainy afternoon. They scurried like mountain goats, but the latest is that she just disappeared. Grandma’s eyes glazed over.

"He still searches for her in the mist. On rainy days in the mist; you’ll see the Climbers of the Gorge. Beware the Climbers’ stare. Gaze into their eyes and stumble into oblivion, forever lost in the mist."
