Seven Sins and More

Seven Sins and More

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

Seven Sins and More

Seven deadly sins

Ruination of the soul

Each one breeds the next

Lust, gluttony and greed

Envy pride and sloth comes next

Wrath is the seventh

Sins more than seven

Sin of hate now comes to mind

Anger leads to hate

Adultery is ten

To covet is eleven

Murder counts up twelve

Stealing is a sin

A thief takes what is not his

Now we’ve reached thirteen

Sin rolls off the tongue

To lie and bear false witness

Fourteen and fifteen

Misuse of God’s Name

We curse others; they curse back

Sixteen is the count

Sabbath is God’s Day

But do we keep it holy

A sin in God’s Eye

In this day and age

Children rebuke their parents

They do not honor

Hurt the little ones

Parents abuse their children

To their damnation

Cleave to needless things

Idol worship forbidden

We make them our Gods

Twenty sins I see

One more is the worst of all

Reject Jesus Christ

How can we know sin?

Hold it up before God’s face

If you fear, it’s sin

Have you fallen short?

Beware your sinful nature

Mankind’s fall from grace

Mankind’s Salvation

Jesus Christ died for your sins

Back into God’s Grace
