Haiku Egg

Haiku Egg

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

Haiku Egg

It’s a mystery

Do you know which one came first?

Chicken or the egg

Eggs in the grasses

They’re hidden there for safety

Wonder what’s inside

Largest of them all

Lies in the tall grass alone

Beginning to crack

Green head peeking out

Sharp claws cut through her prison

T-Rex not scary

She’s a baby now

And just cute as a button

But won’t be for long

One day she will be

The largest of dinosaurs

Deadly carnivore

More eggs she will lay

Babies will be just as cute

But soon you will run

All came from an egg

But tell me which one came first

Egg or dinosaur

Here is the answer

A dinosaur laid the egg

So it did come first

Way before chickens

Dinosaurs roamed the landscape

Chickens came later

Tyrannosaurus Rex was a lean, mean hunter

Go dinosaurs!.. Good use of the color green (birthy)...
I liked the subtle humor.
