Haiku On the Frozen Tundra

Haiku On the Frozen Tundra

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

Haiku On the Frozen Tundra

Frozen tundra bears

Dive in the frigid ocean

Color of the snow

Polar bear has cubs

They slide down the icy slopes

Like children at play

Cubs romp in the snow

Under mother’s watchful eye

No predators found

Mom is on the hunt

She has two small mouths to feed

She’s after the seal

Mom bear makes her kill

Drags her prize up on the bank

Crimson covers white

Like any good mother, she is trying to take care of her little babies. You wrote a fitting tribute to a mother in the wild.
