Mary Had A Little Lamb

 

 

Mary had a little lamb

Its fleece was white as snow

And everywhere that Mary went

The lamb was sure to go

 

 

He followed her to school one day

It was against the rule

It made the children laugh and play

To see a lamb in school

 

 

So the teacher turned him out

But still it lingered near

Waited patiently about

Till Mary did appear

 

 

Why does the lamb love Mary so

The eager children cried

Why, Mary loves the lamb you know

The teacher did reply

 

 

Oh yes we’ve heard the story

Over years and over time

But what is it really telling us

About the lamb in the rhyme

 

 

It could be a God sent message

To children of tender age

In this childhood poem

Written down on a pretty page

 

 

Mary gave birth to Jesus

His soul clean and the driven snow

He followed her direction

Because God’s Will she did know

 

 

The old prophecy told that a sword

Would pierce Mary’s heart

His destiny was written down

Right from the very start

 

 

He went as a lamb to the slaughter

As He stood before the crowd

They all laughed and jeered at Him

Screaming oh so loud

 

 

Crucify, oh crucify

The innocent Lamb of God

Toss him out, oh toss him out

He speaks of things so odd

 

 

Like forgiveness and salvation

And turn the other cheek

And all strong people should protect

His little ones so weak

 

 

Preaching of love and understanding

And hearts with locked doors

Telling His brothers and sisters

There are two choices, and it’s yours

 

 

Oh yes he waited to die

Until his mother did appear

And trusted her care

To His apostle He held dear

 

 

Why did Jesus love Mary and us all?

While dying on the Cross that day

As he suffered so much pain

Oh yes He knew that love is God’s way

 

 

So if Mary had a little lamb

And its fleece is white as snow

Then heaven is a very real place

It’s where all people want to go

 

 

The Lamb loves us

Yes I know

Because the Bible

Tells us so
