Poetry Exercise #1, Take 3

Poetry Exercise #1, Take 3

A Poem by Naomi Bloom
"

A poem modeled after William Carlos Williams' poem The Red Wheelbarrow.

"

so much depends upon

an empty check-out line

a late Saturday night

under fluorescent lights

the slouching, arrogant walk

of a young man with power

an answer to a “how are you?”

a sleek black car

A writing exercise for a poetry class.

We wrote with this template in mind, a poem by William Carlos Williams:

so much depends
upon

a red wheel
barrow

glazed with rain
water

beside the white
chickens.

This is the third of my many attempts to imitate this form.

Thank you for including the template. At first I was trying to concretely connect each stanza and then I realized it could be a bit looser than that. I especially like that first stanza because it is so true. I also like the imagery of the slouching arrogant walk of a young man with power- I see his arms swinging by his sides.
