Ode To The Picture Of My Mom

Ode To The Picture Of My Mom

A Poem by Gregory Stires
"

about a picture of my mom who died of cancer.

"

A picture,

Of our mom,

Cynthea her name was,

A poet our mom was,

Italian blood in her veins,

A lover of music,

Loved our dad,

Had me at the age of 35,

My sister at the age of40,

Also a lover of jewelry,

Daughter of Geri Tennant and David Tennant,

Easilyhe made friends,

Was born on Jan,/29/1964,

As an Aquarius,

Brutal she was

But loved us with

All her heart,

Got cancer during Dec..

Spread through her  body

And made her suffer,

Till she went in a coma at

The first of April

Then died at the end of April,

She now watches over us

In heaven,

Now is in a better place,

Where she wont suffer anymore,

We see her star at night,

The one that stands out the most,And shines the most,

Every year on that day,

We let balloons fly into the sky,

Drop roses into a lake,

We have her ashes,

Quarter for me,

quarter for my sister,

The rest her mom has.

Been five years since that day,

We still see her beautiful star,

We got some of her stuff,

A ring my sister has;

An abalone ring

For me

To give to my future wife,

Or pass down to

My daughter in the

Future,

She may not be with us

But me and my sister

Know she's with us in

Heart and soul,

We can't wait to see her

When we go to heaven.

When dealing with such personal things, the work can often become precious. But not here. Your point of fact deliverance kept me riveted to the page. You didn't embellish and told the reader what is. As a result I cared, and more importantly I saw how you cared. Your meter was also very original and effective.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's a great poem showing what your mom was like.

Well penned and your meter helps for easy reading. :) I just think you could've ended your poem more dramatically. The last two lines sound like a cliche to me now. Nevertheless, I like your poem very much. It's very heartfelt. :)

I think you wrote this well Gregory and in all the details it shows how much you appreciated and still remember your mum. The poem works well with its short lines. A few little typos there that WORD could find and fix.
So your mum was a poet and maybe she gave you some poetic ability to work on too. Keep writing!
