A Latin Journey

A Poem by Deepshikha

Something...insane...I wrote for the Keystone in order to attend PAJCL's annual Latin convention... Enjoy! ^^

Take a ship and sail through the days of old,

To Gallia, Persia, Graecia, Brittania, and Rome.

A journey through antiquity, though life and times,

And does anyone know how hard it is to use Latin and rhyme?

The antics of Iupiter, the wisdom of Minerva, and Dionysus’s sweet wine;

And the exploits of Mars with the love of Venus, create a world with shine.

Across the Adriatic, Aegean, Black seas; through the Tiber there lies a city,

Vivat Roma! in all her majesty and glory.

From the kingdom, to the republic, and finally the empire,

Living in insulae, villae, latifundiae, and beautiful immortal shires.

Caesar, Cincinnatus, Augustus, oh my!

Tabernae, Circus Maximus, Colosseum, curia, basillicae, oh sigh!

Latin scholars we are and forever shall remain,

Bringing glory and excitement to new, old, and even the mundane.
