firefly

in my hands I held a firefly 
and she shined so bright 
here she flew and there she fluttered 
she danced under the night sky

then the little firefly took off my palm 
and into the deep summer night 
she flew towards the stars; up up and away 
she kissed me with a soft light

up and up she went; into the heavens 
up towards the glowing smiling moon 
I blinked once and ---oh!--- she was gone 
I blinked again and oh, she was a star

she zoomed through the heavens 
like a comet shooting towards the sun 
farther and further; faster and faster 
until all at once she was gone
