Magnolia Avenue

Magnolia Avenue

A Poem by Neal S

Tripping down magnolia avenue
With prophets coming into view
The wind brings your perfume drifting through
Smells like home to me

Smile on my face and feeling fine
Poets round a table killing time
But I'm an infant in their mind
Beards long and sipping wine

But that's when I know iv'e got to go
Concrete seems to move with me down below
I don't even try and say hello
They wouldn't understand

I catch the next alley where the windows wrap
My psychedelic mind noticing the trap
Of the police at the end of the way

As I advance
Taking this chance
Trying not to look as if I was in some type of trance
The officer tilts his head with a strange glance

"Son. Why aren't you wearing any pants?

Thanks Kaylee. Glad you liked it!
Sounds like an awesome trip, apart from the last...Hope you managed to think of a good excuse....or outran them :)
Wise poets are always wise enough to know they wouldn't understand, as you said.
The wise sit and bask, while the rest continue their adventure to wisdom. I'm glad I have a long part of the journey remaining :)

Me too! Thanks for the review Nemo!
ahahahaha sure surprised me ..love the scenes and stories you take me through .. for me this poem has everything fine about it ..love the title ..first verse is great ..especially like the contrast of its last line .. the middle set me up with veneration of the "old guys" .. and like i said .. closing gave me a fine surprise ..made me laugh :)

The second grouping caught my attention, I was expecting more about the poets, then you got me laughing at the ending. Valentine

haha This ending reminded me of the intro of Mr Bean being dropped naked on a road. Lovely flow to this write as is the imagery you painted with words.
