The Cries Of The Mermaid

The Cries Of The Mermaid

A Poem by MandaBear
"

I was inspired by this photo. I hope you enjoy!

"

She calls out into the night
A soulful yet hollow melody
Flying through the air toward the clouds
From a once blissful heart

Singing in a language only the angels know
As she disentangles her hair of seaweed
Salty tears flow from her eyes
Mixing with the oceans opaque froth

Once she was the beauty of the sea
Embraced life with a youthful laugh
Now she can only sing her soulful song
A sad tune destined to lure unwary sailors
To their untimely death as they drown in her unsympathetic smile
Her heart was suffering
In her selfish action
By a lover so two-faced
Now her unrelenting soul
Will command no one home

In her death she was so alive
She lives not yet she can breathe
Called to the ocean to drown in her own tears
She knows not what day though knows time passes
She finds peace among the waves
Now it’s hers
Not in death but in life wrapped in scaly skin

No break for the traveling seaman
For the bodies found upon her shores
For she has no heart but a black mass
Death is inside of her unyielding and free

She glides among the water and sea creatures
In silent recognition
Those who speak her name will come to know death
She recognizes no creature in her sadness
Only those unfortunate sailors passing the waves
Luring them to their eternal sleep
As they succumb to her harmonious voice

As each sun rises
The day is new as she stares into the never ending horizon
Even as she positions herself upon weathered stone
Watching the crashing waves hit the sandy beach
Angels flying over head
As her everlasting salty tears fall into her ocean of grief
Mix with the deep oceanic water fast and free
Spreading into every ocean

In her song of soulful sorrow she waits for an angel
The one who has come to her in a dream
The one who will show her true love again
The one who will release her from this life of death

This sucks.

Well, not the poem.
The poem is great.

Her perdicament however, that definetly sucks.
The words dance around on the screen, rushing from one point to another, trying to convey the tragedy of the mermaid. They do so wonderfully.

Good job.

There is a tone of soul's pain throughout the poem, it makes the reader to ponder about her painful past, the imagery that you have created looks very vivid... The amazing creativity and thinking flows throughout the poem... This is so so amazing in the way you captured the reader's through your perfect choice of words...

So beautiful and melancholic manda... I love it...

Sincerely
Dhiman

Thank you for the lovely review. I am so glad you enjoyed. =)
I'm amazed with how thorough you went into this creature's life/death, from her past ache and torture to her sadness and journey to retrieve love again. Very beautiful and melancholy.

I believe this is beautiful. However in "In her death she was so alive. She lives not yet she can breath" I wonder if you meant "breathe"? There may also be an extra E in "thee" in the line "Once she was thee beauty of the sea ". I hope you don't mind my minor observation.

This jumps to life in vivid imagery and I really enjoyed it.
