I don't like being in love

I don't like being in love

A Poem by Nigel Newman
"

Can one 'love' without first passing through being 'in love'? As I get older, I greatly favour loving and distrust the other ...

"

I don't like being in love

I don’t like being in love

The loss of control

Surrender of soul

To chemistry fantasy blind devotion

I don’t like being in love

But I love loving you

I don’t like the free-fall

The friends and family

Who see the reality

The infatuation and mad adoration

I don’t like the free-fall

But I love being landed with you

Lost within the highest climb of total rapture bliss

Out there as your limbs entwine and everywhere you kiss

Even when your closest friends say really are you sure

Sense will lose to senses as you swoon and you adore

I don’t like being in love

Mind gone it seems

In whirlpools of dreams

I’d rather the calm even look from a partner

I don’t like being in love

But I love being loved by you

this is a fine poem, no morethan fine Nigel. I love this. mind you, I'm not in love with it, now that I know the difference haha. I am not getting any younger myself and I tend to agree with you and yet, it would be a damn pity not to fall in love and experience the plethora of feelings that threaten to engulf the smitten person.

Woody thanks. Yes, we more mature people tell ourselves that the state of loving and being loved are.. read more
The calm after the storm... There is something so precious about this, Nigel, which had brought a warm smile to my lips. Those last few lines to three of the four stanzas... There is a timelessness here, when the youthful, wild nature of love has long grown into adulthood, can now simply slow down and appreciate what has been gained, learned from the journey. Wasn't at all expecting this delightful, beautiful piece after reading the title, but I am beyond elated that I have ventured upon these words as they have reminded me of loves true pleasures. What is to come after the agonies and madness, after the hysterics of being crazy in love have passed, and we find ourselves simply loving in totality. Sigh... Such a wonderful, charming write this is.
