A million no-ones

A million no-ones

A Poem by Nigel Newman
"

Hopefully a self explanatory reminder to us all to be kind to EVERYONE we interact with and not just those whom we deem to 'matter'.

"

I clear your Restaurant table

I sweep your Bathroom floor

I serve you at the Supermart

Deliver to your door

I am a million no-ones

A face you just don’t see

I’m Martha, I am Soledad

I’m Jovetich, I’m me

I’ll drive you to the station

I’ll take your pulse today

I’ll help your child across the road

I’ll take your trash away

Maybe I’m in hi-vis

A tunic or a van

I’m Martin, Ibrahimovic

I’m Krishan, I’m a man

In my dreams we taken-for-granted storm the Pearly Gates

While s****y city gamblers slip beneath the streets’ grey grates

In my dreams we never thanked are knighted, raised on high

While you each day who walk away will look me in the eye

And no longer deny

You are no more than I

Jesus hung out with the poor and downtrodden. So did Gandhi and Mother Teresa. Countless other saintly figures did, too. A ladder without bottom rungs is useless. No one man or woman on this earth is superior to another. These words you've written are true and important.

love the concept in this piece Nigel! I like the structure as well. The last lines are my favorite. You've touched on such an important social issue. I can see a ton of potential behind the topic you're scratching at here --I think perhaps that is what you meant by "still pretty rough draft" ? This is a revolutionary and empowering idea that can definitely been explored further!
Great writing, friend!

I think it's roughness just plays into it's meaning. I know who you are ...but in your own self absorbed worlds, you do not see me.....but what are you if we do not play into your day?
Beautiful examination !

My parents taught me to be as kind to the janitor as I was to the principal of the school...one of life's most important lessons I believe. Your rhyming and rhythm in this one is flawless and the message is clear....no man...or woman...is better than another. We all are important....and we all count. I liked this a lot. Lydi**

i love this because my philosophy has always been that each person is important in his or her own right...each person has a job to do that benefits all of society in some way...we are all necessary.

nicely expressed here.
