What other way is there

What other way is there

A Poem by Nigel Newman

What other way is there

What options present

We have to be normal

And never relent

By all means be kinder

To all those around

Regardless of kinships

Or how they may sound

What other way is there

There’s really no choice

By all means be watchful

But don’t lose your voice

Still be respectful

Still lend a hand

Do unto others …

Together we stand

What other path is there than living each day?

A radical zealot, with no shades of grey, has no place among us

And must learn a way, to live with all people and hear what we say

What other choice is there

There’s simply no doubt

Alternatives futile

To think about

All through this winter

Spring summer or fall

All are for one now

And one is for all

Nicely done! This has a "We are the World" ring to it, though not half as preachy. We are part of the grander macrocosm, the higher cosmos if you will, and it's part of our duty to do our bit as we are all bound by invisible ties.

Beautiful, Nigel! :)

This poem really speaks to me. In a world that's overly complicated, the best way to go is the uncomplicated way--- the way of kindness and respect regardless of race, status, or belief. But also, because of the world's complicated ways, we also need to be strong and assertive. Your poem accurately explains that balance---a balance that not many people have but should have.

The way you put this poem together was perfect. This has definitely become one of my favourites and is something that I'd love to come back to. Wonderful work! :)

Oh if we all could just keep in mind those things that you mentioned! It was a delight. It was positive and reenforcing(summed up what's good).

Those choices are so often lost in the reality of just being.

I have found that we lose our way more often than we find it. But somehow, despite all, the goodness of the human spirit still survives and I hope and pray it always will, regardless of the transient madness that surrounds.

Sadly though, that hope is tempered by the thought that neighbours will actually come to blows, or worse, over something as simple as the positioning of a fence post; which perhaps rather unfortunately points to the fact that some higher hand quite deliberately built such aberrance into our genetic makeup.

Time will tell, if of course enough time remains. Meantime, you voice a credo to live by.

Beccy.

Great poem. There seemed to be very few in the world who understand just how much about of kindness can do

Thanks for dropping by.
What other way is there.. indeed a thought provoking question.. I think the straightforward and somewhat unemotional answer would be to go on as we have been going on up till now but then the question arises of whether we would be deemed human enough if we did so?...

I like how you jump from one stanza to the next with different set of thoughts and still maintaining the repetition which is what gives this poem a good flow.

This was a wonderful piece. Sometimes the only way is kindness. The only way to bring peace in these horrendous times is to show kindness and lend others a helping hand instead fighting back with more bombs and violence. Your words placed here were amazing and i loved the rhythm to your poem !

Thank you Pia.
"By all means be watchful
But don’t lose your voice"

The best part, the truest piece of advice in the piece. This is a poetic lesson to some of the "-isms" we now live (and some of us die) with.

Well done.
