A single strand of hair

A single strand of hair

A Poem by Nigel Newman
"

A lyric from our band's most recent CD. It tries to describe something that lasted maybe one second ...

"

Time freezes

Never once in all his days

All his lovers and their ways

Has he felt so unprepared

For a single strand of hair

Mere hours

Not a word about romance

He’s about to take a chance

He is playing truth or dare

On a single strand of hair

From the weather in that place a single hair has crossed her face

On her tiny beads of sweat it isn’t moving yet

A notion out of nowhere he hasn’t thought about

Two feet away she’s there

He reaches out

Time stops

Millimetres from her face

Well inside her comfort space

All his hopes are in the air

On a single strand of hair

A beautiful moment in time!

Nice... I really like this piece. It has a lot of emotion, which in the end is exactly what pulls the reader.

Well done, Nigel. When I read it, a melody accompanied the lyrics. Probably not the one intended, but there nonetheless. Good write.

I really love this poem. It is perfect in that it captures one single moment of time. It's amazing how we can have so many feelings toward one small aspect of life that the other person may have thought nothing of. Thank you for sharing this!

I love how you capture something so simple as moving a strand of hair, and you bring it to life. Well done!

Superbi. I see the story play out and know the time spent thinking about that moment, and how we can get lost in one moment, expanding it into such wonderful words.
