A single strand of hair

A single strand of hair

A Poem by Nigel Newman
"

A lyric from our band's most recent CD. It tries to describe something that lasted maybe one second ...

"

Time freezes

Never once in all his days

All his lovers and their ways

Has he felt so unprepared

For a single strand of hair

Mere hours

Not a word about romance

He’s about to take a chance

He is playing truth or dare

On a single strand of hair

From the weather in that place a single hair has crossed her face

On her tiny beads of sweat it isn’t moving yet

A notion out of nowhere he hasn’t thought about

Two feet away she’s there

He reaches out

Time stops

Millimetres from her face

Well inside her comfort space

All his hopes are in the air

On a single strand of hair

I love the creativity of your title & how you've woven it thru your piece. It's a great symbol to represent any number of ways that a fleeting moment in time can change everything. I also like the way your storyline seems to "hone in on her" in a seductively gradual way (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Hiya! I know it must seem really weird to befriend someone before even reading their works but looking through your works just really drew me in...that, and your profile picture, which omg it is so cute! I honestly can say that I loved this, it was short and snappy, but I loved that you kept bringing back the "single strand of hair" line, it really brought it back to the purpose of the writing. I particularly found myself drawn to the line "Never once in all his days All his lovers and their ways Has he felt so unprepared For a single strand of hair" that just stuck with me and I found myself keeping going back to it. I don't know what it is, but it just is such a powerful line. I wish you luck on your journey to becoming superstars by the way, and keep up with the writing, you have a talent for it.

Well done, Nigel. When I read it, a melody accompanied the lyrics. Probably not the one intended, but there nonetheless. Good write.
