The Winter Of My Discontent

The Winter Of My Discontent

A Poem by James Takeo Panton

Now comes the times
Silent and white
Gloomy grey days
Dark winter nights
Frost on my panes
Silence in the streets
The land now grows dead
Beneath frozen white sheets
Trees bare and black
Branches filled with snow
Not leaving my house
I’ve nowhere to go
Icy castle of solitude
Heat blows from the vent
Alone in this time
Winter of discontent
Short days are numbered
Days crawl all the while by
Until days that bring spring
And from this place I shall fly
But for now I am snowbound
With nowhere to go
And no-one shall see me
Entombed within snow
The time slowly passes
Grey turns into black
Seems such a long time shall pass
Until I can go back
To where the sun will shine
To the places I know
Away from this place
Filled with ice and snow
But for now I will wait
Until those days in spring
I shall see what then happens
I shall see what it brings
Until then I stay here
Frozen in this spot
Alone in my icy tomb
Here, I do rot
Until I am thawed out
Numb chilled to my bones
My hands are like ice
My heart like a stone
Until that day comes
When spring then arrives
Until then I must wait
But I shall survive
This winter that comes now
And is my discontent
Your warmth it is felt here
From you, it’s been sent
To keep as a fire
Deep in my heart
Miles of snow
Shall not keep us apart

I love your rhyme scheme and the rhythm. It tells of your solitude, away from the one's you love and the place you know best, very well. Great write! Barbara

This is just wonderful, I can't wait for summer or at least spring here. Well written.

this winter has been very brutal on the psyche- i can see why our ancestors dreaded winter and considered it to be a time of death and desolation. We all suffer through the winter waiting for that warmth to return.

The title drew me here, and I am pleased. I almost expected to see iambic pentameter, but no. Nice write. It has good flow. =)
