A mans best friend

A mans best friend

A Poem by Glen's not so clean slate
"

Contemplating life, mistakes, and missing someone dear

"
Aye
Candle burning so bright tonight
Lemon blossom and sage
Bitter and sweet
With Hints of rage
I stare at the flame so intent
It smells a bit like you
I reminisce of times a past
Time where a mans best friend
Was not my only company
On this new spring Saturday night
At least the cold is leaving now
As I sail into the mystic in my mind
Thinking of the one I left behind
A mans best friend is all I need now
I suppose
Not a dog
No furry friend
But a handle of whiskey
Is all that can mend
And in the midnight hour
I sit
Flame
Scent
Taste
Haste
What's a man to do
But be utterly, totally
thankful for ye

You are a truly gifted poet. It's like new age Rabbie Burns. I love it

but that handle of whiskey may only fetch trouble and more tears...we might drown in them...
but still...when we are deep in the abyss of sorrow...we don't care...we just take those swigs...and pat the bottle on the neck...

"Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic"
Beautiful, vulnerable poem of lost love regrets drowned in a "handle of whiskey"...lyrical, eloquent language "times a past" that could be a song. Exquisite imagery fills the senses. Heart-breakingly lovely. Well-penned sir. Kudos!
