Deadly

Deadly

A Poem by Nadia Zahran

Encompassing your irreverent actuality with something so pure

So clear cut
Almost indescribable
Yet plexiglass like

Complex only by what is misunderstood

Misinterpreted by fallacies of falsehoods

Falsehoods stemming from brotherhoods

So unbrotherly the way these brotherhoods operate

So unholy the way you seem to justify these tyrants

Tyrannical in your speech

Nonplussed by ignorance

Ignorance that cuts into your skin

Penetrates deeper than one should

Much deeper than you should

As your clammy hands and jaundiced cheeks approach me

I am in your rapture
Almost in your capture
But not quite

Not quite enough to totally encompass me
Inhabiting unpaved, unmarred realities only to realize the ink splatters lead you to nothing

Dead end

Not really dead though

Rotting away is your peachy smile

Decomposing-it’s been there for a while

Blue toenails chipping away

Eating away at what was once art

What once I could tear apart-

Too complex to whiten your smile

Too tattered to formulate anything real

So unreal
As these memories peel
Again, that blatant dead end
Lively start as your innocence falls apart
