Mind Over Matter.

Mind Over Matter.

A Poem by Matt Evans
"

A quick seduction poem, written after re-reading "To His Coy Mistress".

"

I’ll make no promises to lift the Earth,

I cannot lie and walk a thousand miles.

I may not bend and break with just my grip,

But I can bend and take with just my wiles.

I could love you in ways no others can,

My heart is irrefutable this way.

For though I’m sure that Loki has your eye,

Atlas would not give you the time of day.

He takes his dame, and leaves an empty shell;

Another trial Zeus set him to beat.

While stronger men have always had their fill

Half a man will yearn to be complete.

The other half, separate from his soul;

Released at birth, and sent into the world.

A trial of my own to find its mate

While Atlas scrapes his oaken ears for mould.

“Greater men” will stay for your palindromes,

I will stay for resonance of the mind.

We don’t know if I’ll leave for golden East,

Or remain, for immemorial time.

So leave old Heracles, and fie convention!

Follow me, for I am the father of invention!
