habits

habits

A Poem by Makayla

Bad habits are hard to break!
You go through recovery
only to relapse;
repeating the cycle
never quite quitting,
only temperamental breaks
between drags
It's so easy to fall into something familiar
it is comforting to be with what you know,
but, what you know and what is real are not the same
What you want and what is good is not the same
It's just not the same anymore
Things change with time
Things don't always fit together like
a poem and a rhyme do,
like bullying and high school
Do you remember why you tried to quit?
The reason is there,
you just have to look for it
You're falling back into old routines
You're forgetting the past,
not learning from mistakes
Why go through hardship
just to repeat the same fate?
It makes no sense!
To understand what I mean,
think of a relit cigarette;
it never taste the same!
And that's all that I'll say
about rekindling old flames
