It

It

A Poem by Omar

It's the place where I deemed I'd never fit, and never find my place. It's where I would never belong.

It's the place where my heart took its first beat, and has never stopped ever since.

The land from where I fantasized about taking off, launching myself to the corners of the Universe; it is from where I'd bounce towards the stars.
I've stood at its shores and squinted at its horizon, feeling rooted to the floor but free as a bird, all the while.

It's the box in which I've learned the laws of time and space,

Where I'd lie in the summer as if I were just another contented grain of sand, the heat of the unreachable sun washing over me. Indulging,

It's the fountain from where I'd drunken rivers of nothing but endurance and lulling familiarity. An unfathomable strength I've been given.

A nest in which I'd been allowed to hatch peacefully, respecting my overt ambivalence,

An incubator in which I've been allowed to stem and branch, warm enough for my meticulous taste, as I was left to unfurl leaves of dewy green,

A pillow on which I've rested my head—ravaged by tempests, driven into tears many a night.

It's a temple, whose shores sprout snowflake roses that flail at the clouds, a sapphire ocean atop which sailboats and seagulls could keep me hypnotized for ages,

It's the place I know I'd die the second I learn I have to part with.
