Remembrance

Bert took pride in his old uniform

wearing his medals he got for

bravery in the war.

Every year without fail.

He attended the Armistice Day

Remembrance.

With the far and few between now

fellow comrades.

It was a sombre and fitting tribute

but meant so much to him and others.

It was so an emotional day.

Taking so much out of him.

But he cared and had to

show respect.

My father kept his medals from the Korea war and Vietnam war above the TV. He earned them and he was proud. I loved the story in the poetry. In my time, old soldiers would stop and talk to me at the Veterans holidays. Men, who hold great sadness. Need similar life and understanding. Thank you Dawn for sharing the outstanding poetry.

I don't think the younger generation understand how much these heros have done for us. As it did take a toll on them all. No matter which wars they sadly partake in.

The cost of freedom is forgotten. It is sad. I believe, take a children to a military grave site. They would understand then.
